Too Tardy to Vote by zelc-face Too Tardy to Vote by zelc-face
DISCLAIMER: I bring no offense to republicans (I am a proud one, and happily voted for Romneigh ;))

...ok, don't get me wrong, but they're both awful. Also, I'm not into politics, but whenever presidential candidency is involved, I legitimately jump into action.

Oh man, I remember that election, sad times all around =(. A clown running for office and then Romney, who was an even bigger jokester. Every which way you voted was a waste of time, it's too bad people aren't more open minded or a third party could have easily won that vote. Well hopefully comic 2016 we'll have some ACTUAL candidates to run for office.

Yeah I really hate that elections are called before the votes are all in. Way to tell people in Florida and Alaska that they essentially don't matter and their votes don't count. The fact that early results may prevent people in the last state from voting may even throw an election.

But the big question is did the Liberstallions get 5% of the vote? :p

I'm starting to think the whole Electoral College thing is a joke and needs to be done away with.

:iconinnak:
Innak Featured By Owner Nov 11, 2012
The Electoral College was designed to keep the rural areas of the country from having no voting power at all. In modern times, it has largely served to make just that the case. The country's elections have come down to the choices of those in certain "swing states", leaving the votes of anyone in the other states effectively meaningless.

If you are a Democrat in Idaho or a Republican in Washington, you might as well write in Applejack for all the good your vote will do. And if you are a Republican in Idaho or a Democrat in Washington, you don't have to worry about casting your ballot because the majority will carry the state for you.

However, doing away with the Electoral College would be just as bad. Since 1992, the Democrats have won the popular vote in 5 out of 6 presidential elections. Republicans really only stand a chance in popular vote counts during mid-term elections (like in 2010) when most Americans don't vote. If we did away with the Electoral College, we would be effectively disenfranchising nearly half the country. And whether you like the Republicans and their platform or not, they deserve to have their voices heard.

Then you really don't want the dissolution of the Electoral College.

I have seen more than an handful of Republicans (usually in their teens or early twenties) who do not understand why this is the case, and for whom the last election was as baffling as it was disappointing. So I'll let you in on a secret:

News channels are not charities, nor are they public service works funded by our tax dollars. News channels are businesses. Their goal is to make money. In order to do so, they find a portion of the market to appeal to, and they tailor their news to keep their customers coming back for more. Every news station -- all of them -- chose what stories to tell and how they spin them in order to appeal to their target audience. News media are in the business of selling realities.

If anybody tries to tell you the Main Stream Media doesn't have a liberal bias, they are lying (although possibly out of ignorance). If a channel tells you it is "Fair and Balanced", that's not a statement of truth; it's a slogan designed to make you feel good and slightly superior for choosing to watch their network.

The Main Stream Media is called that because they are "main stream". That is, they comprise the vast majority of the media. So why are the vast majority of television news outlets biased towards the left? It's not a conspiracy. It's not a mystery. The simple fact is, most businesses will gear their product to the largest market of customers. And there are enough customers who want their spin to range from moderate to far left for all of those businesses which comprise the MSM to split their viewership between them and still be financially successful.

Within network television, Fox News is extremely successful, but not because they are appealing to a majority. Rather, because they don't have any competition for the minority whose personal beliefs or political positions put them at odds with the reality sold by the MSM.

But a popular vote election will not care what reality you've been buying into, or how right your stances are, or how horrible the other party's guy is.

In reality, virtually every Democrat will vote Democratic because they believe the Republicans are eeeeeevil. And virtually every Republican will vote Republican because they're scared of what the Democrats will do in power. So what is important right now is the tiny percentage of independents and moderates who can be swayed. In a popular vote, if one party has more people than the other by an amount greater than that tiny percentage, that party will win. And right now, the liberals outnumber the conservatives by at least that much. And the trend over the last two decades is for the number of liberals to grow and the number of conservatives to shrink. And that has happened regardless of who has been in office or how catastrophic their terms have been according to whatever media reality you're watching.

With how often I run into people that would argue and get all in a huff about this nonsense, I'd think there would be an accumulation of them around the polling areas. So I think it kinda funny how happy and helpful everyone is at election polls.

The only reason Obama couldn't accomplish what he intended in his first term was because congress wouldn't let anything pass. I hate the USA of today, it sucks. I'll have to jump ship and move to Finland before long.

Romney didn't rebuke the outrageous claims by the Obama Admin enough, I think. Most people may be disappointed with Obama, but they evidently believed what Obama said about him, and voted for Barry anyway.
